America plans $20bn arms deals for allies in the Gulf - LiberateUS Feature Articles (External)

(LiberateUS Comment) So, the answer to the problem of violence in the Mideast, and throughout the Arab world is to provide more weapons and ammunition. Hey, call me stupid, but throwing gasoline on a raging fire doesn't exactly seem the prudent approach to putting out the flames. Mark my words ... just as Osama bin Laden was a tool of the CIA and eventually turned against America, these weapons will ultimately be used against our own men and women in uniform. The complexities of relationships within the Arab world are not well understood by the US Government, and the consequences of these sorts of actions are never well considered.

In the space of 25 days - from Haneef's arrest at Brisbane airport while awaiting a flight to India, to yesterday's humiliating decision to drop the charge that he recklessly assisted British-based terrorists by giving a SIM card to a second cousin - the police investigations so enthusiastically applauded for their haste and precision have been relegated from trophy to the sort of stench polite company disowns with a cold shoulder.

(LiberateUS Comment) This is what happens when you trade liberty for security - innocent lives are ruined. "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." (letter from the Pennsylvania Assembly dated November 11, 1755 to the Governor of Pennsylvania)

Defying Bush, House Passes New Deadline for Withdrawal From Iraq - LiberateUS Feature Articles (External)

(LiberateUS Comment) Fine ... and when the Senate can't come up with a matching bill, or when they do and Bush uses the veto, they'll all wring their hands and cry "we tried folks", and then they'll fund the war for another round anyway. Unless they're willing to use the power of the purse strings - just as they did during the Vietnam War - this war has no endpoint. THERE IS NO EXIT STRATEGY - did you hear it that time??? Call your Congresscritter today, and demand that they withhold funding for the war - PERIOD. Forget withdrawal timetables, forget the excuses, as soon as they stop funding it (which they CAN do), the war is over - DONE. The troops come home, and we can focus on national priorities for a change instead of this non-stop circus presented by the current administration. Enough is enough already.
