Nobody hates us because we are free. If there are people who hate the United States — and there are, they hate us for what we have done, or what we have failed to do as a nation.
Perhaps they hate us for our misguided foreign policies. Perhaps they hate us because we interfere in the internal affairs of their countries. It could be that we are hated because our Government has engaged in wars of aggression against sovereign nations, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children. Then again, maybe they hate us because we support criminal elements, dictators and thugs in their homelands so U.S. corporations can exploit their natural and human resources at a heady profit.
There are any number of reasons why they might hate us, but I doubt that any of them hate us because we are free.
To best understand the motivations of others, we need to make an effort to see the world from their point of view. We are fortunate to have tools at our fingertips that will give us a view of the Mainstream Media in other countries whose ideologies differ (some more and some less) from our own. It is important to tread carefully however, because the MSM of other nations is no less crafty and no less biased than in the U.S. In many of the western nations, the MSM is controlled by the very same interests and corporations that have monopolized the U.S. media.
If for only a moment you can glimpse the U.S. through their eyes, you may not recognize your own country. We were once seen as a shining beacon of hope for the entire world. Today we are seen as arrogant bullies; greedy, self-absorbed, and lacking a moral and just foundation in our society.
We cannot change the past, but we can shape the future. If we look at our reflection in the eyes of others and dislike what we see it is up to us to begin making a difference.
— Giuseppe Mazzini
